Located in a small private community in Tampa Florida, this house was designed for a young family of five. The house sits atop a plinth, with the finish floor 12’-0” above sea level per flood zone protocol.

Each volume houses a specific function, keeping the formal and day-to-day uses of the house separate from each other. These volumes wrap around a central pool deck looking out over carefully protected old-growth oak trees. This lush vista is framed by a two story curtain wall and deep overhangs keep the interior spaces well shaded throughout the day.

The ground floor and plinth are clad in coral stone, while the second floor volumes are clad in a thermally modified cedar that will silver over time as it weathers. Careful detailing and site responsive design allows this house to effortlessly lift out of ground and float among the tree canopy.
